Western & Southern, The Salvation Army, local religious leaders, associates and many families and friends celebrated the dedication of the Crib of the Nativity with a ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 8.
This is the 79th year for the Crib. It was first constructed in 1939 in Lytle Park, spent several years at Union Terminal welcoming returning World War II military personnel, and now continues as the company’s gift to the people of Cincinnati in Eden Park at the Krohn Conservatory. It is estimated that nearly 3 million people have visited over the years.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted and matched by the Western & Southern Financial Fund for the benefit of The Salvation Army.
Following the invocation by Major Larry Ashcraft of The Salvation Army, our Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer John F. Barrett offered opening remarks and Senior Vice President of Public Relations Kim Chiodi made the presentation.
Religious leaders Father Barry Windholtz of St. Rose Church and Pastor Paul Booth, Jr. of Legacy Pointe Church also spoke.
The Western & Southern Choral Group, led by Bob Turner of Information Technology, and The Salvation Army Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Anita Cocker Hunt, filled the air with seasonal carols.
The Crib of the Nativity is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Jan. 1, 2019, at the Krohn Conservatory.
