John F. Barrett, Western & Southern Financial Group president, chairman and chief executive officer, was profiled in LEADERS magazine’s third edition of 2019. In the Q&A article, titled “Committed to Cincinnati,” Barrett answered questions posed by the magazine’s editor.
The topics covered in the article included Western & Southern’s culture, Cincinnati and the financial services industry.
When asked how important culture is to the company, Barrett replied, “extremely critical.” Culture is one of Western & Southern’s pillars, and culture gave the company a competitive edge when bidding on the purchase of Gerber Life Insurance Company.
Barrett discussed the time and resources Western & Southern has committed to Cincinnati, its hometown, especially in real estate development. From residential housing in the Over-the-Rhine area to its addition of the Great American Tower to the city’s skyline, Western & Southern has made a tremendous impact and continues to do so.
Questions about the financial services industry touched on attracting talent. Barrett described how unique the industry is and how important it is for companies to be civically involved in order to attract top talent.
