On Saturday, Sept. 10, Western & Southern Life is sponsoring a daylong event that features high school football games between storied programs from Ohio, Kentucky and Maryland. The inaugural Ironton Gridiron Classic, held in the southern Ohio town of Ironton, is set to kick off at one of the state’s most famed high school football venues – Tanks Memorial Stadium.
“Western & Southern Life is proud to serve as sponsor for the Ironton Gridiron Classic,” said John Large, Western & Southern Life divisional vice president (Division A). “It’s a tremendous event that provides exposure for not just the schools and players, but also for southern Ohio.
“All six of these schools bring rich football history, outstanding talent and high aspirations for this season. We’re excited for a fun day of football and community.”
The action starts at 2 p.m. with a battle between national powerhouses, as Cincinnati’s Archbishop Moeller takes on Our Lady of Good Counsel of Olney, Md. That game will be followed at 5 p.m. when Cleveland Benedictine faces DeMatha Catholic of Hyattsville, Md. In the 8 p.m. nightcap, the hometown Ironton Fighting Tigers take on Johnson Central of Paintsville, Ky.
